Research - Interpretations of the same building
In this video Ted Forbes talks about interpretations of images of the same building and that there is a timelessness to images that are repeated time after time and avoiding the usual tourist shot can be an unfortunate approach. It can take a little time and thought to put your own stamp on a picture. The images reviewed is the Brooklyn Bridge, firstly taken by Tom Borella using a pin hole camera and the amazing effects this technique has on the image, the same shot taken by Hiroshi Sugimoto is quite a different image using his infinity x 2 style resulting in a blurred image which I find hard to understand why this is considered a good image being so blurred it looks like it was unintentional, Michael Kenna on the other hand has taken the same image shot on a diagonal, square and with his style of high contrast, dramatic tones and highlights. Alexander Alan took the same shot, which is given away by the figure wearing the hat (1938) giving the image a sense of time, otherwise any of the images could have been taken at any time but each with the photographers own interpretation. In conclusion, it's ok to take an image that's been done to death but just add your individual take on it.
