Project: a comfortable situation

Most people trying out this kind of photography are at first uncomfortable about strangers and I am certainly one of them. It's the prospect of being challenged, embarrassingly, for using the camera 'impolitely'. Just as there are ways and social means for engaging in conversation with strangers, so there are with photographing them. the methods tend to divide between being unnoticed on the one hand and gaining trust and permission, if only implicitly, on the other.

The goal is to have the confidence and skills to tackle street photography, photographing people in natural activity without being conspicuous while still being able to make effective compositions with good timing. This is much harder than it sounds!

One important variable is the kind of situation you choose to work in. Some are easier than others because, for example, photography of a parade would be expected or some sort of celebration, these situations would be more comfortable to take pictures at.
