Project: Special processing

For this exercise I needed to find a photo I'd already taken, an image in which the visual prominence is of a figure(s) in a setting. One image to make more prominent, so that they recede into the setting, the second to make the figure(s) stand out more.

Image one: In this image, the figures to the left fore aren't prominent at all and even seem to disappear into the shadows with the subject of the image, the cathedral, being the most prominent. In order to make the figures less prominent, using Lightroom 5 I reduced the exposure, increased the highlights to increase visibility of the sky and the stone, and increased the colour saturation of the blue of the sky.

Image two: using the sliders in Lightroom 5, the exposure and shadows were increased, the contrast reduced thus making not only the figures to the right fore of the image more visible but also the figures walking through the archway. Also the strong accent of the red trousers is more visible as is the red door. The colour of the stone is also lighter as a result of increasing the exposure, although in both images the lines are converging to both sides, as this wasn't part of the exercise, I didn't address this. I found the 'shadows' slider had the most effect with this image.
